Description

PHO Grand Rounds: Herd Effects of Antibiotic Use on C. difficile infection risk: A View from Veterans Affairs Long-Term Care Facilities in the United States

Although clinical factors affecting a person's susceptibility to Clostridium difficile infection are well-understood, much less is known about how the disease is transmitted, and what drives inter-facility variation in disease incidence. In this session, Kevin Brown will present ongoing research on the drivers of transmission and facility-level incidence in acute and long-term care facilities in North America, with a focus on a recently published study on incidence in Veterans Affairs nursing homes.

Kevin Brown is a new scientist at Public Health Ontario with an interest in infectious disease transmission and health services research. He is trained in epidemiology (PhD, University of Toronto), biostatistics (MSc, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), and health geography (BA, McGill University).
